Over the past two years, organizations worldwide have had to contend with a significant surge in ransomware attacks, with nearly 5,200 businesses being targeted in 2023. While a number of established ransomware groups accounted for most of the attacks, half of the groups only began operations in 2023.

Here, we explore the most active ransomware organizations of 2022 and 2023. It’s important to note that ransomware group activity and victimology is highly dynamic, highlighting a need for CISOs and their teams to stay up-to-date with trends in the cyber risk landscape.

Ransomware will continue to be one of the most prevalent cyber threats with the most far-reaching consequences. As the cyber risk landscape evolves, cybersecurity leaders and teams need to ensure they have access to the tools and technology needed to stay abreast of emerging ransomware groups and activities.
